Best Affiliate Programs

There are an astounding number of affiliate programs available these days. For anyone who wishes to have a product to sell online but does not have their own product, nor the expertise to create one, getting involved in an affiliate program may be the way to go.

In case you don't know what an affiliate program is, it is simply a program where you can sell others' products in return for commissions. The commissions can range anywhere from about 1% on up to 50%, which is common, or as high as 75 or 80% is more rare circumstances.

What is the process for becoming an affiliate?

Once you have decided upon an affiliate network or a particular affiliate product to promote you would usually need to just create an account with that vendor to register as an affiliate. This would involve you entering personal information including your social security number and address in most cases, since the vendor will need to pay you and will be required to send you an income statement at the end of the year should you generate a certain volume of commissions.

Some vendors will not ask for your personal information until you reach a certain dollar amount in commissions. Others will require this up-front. May vendors will pay your affiliate commissions via PayPal or another online payment processor.

Rarely you can find affiliate programs that will pay 100% commission, meaning you get to keep the entire sales price. Usually this would be done with lower-cost products for the purpose of the vendor growing his email subscriber list. You promote their lead capture pages and they let you take the entire $9 or $20 or whatever it is, so that you have an incentive to continue to promote their brand, and they get more subscribers on their list without too much effort on their part, except of course for the initial development of the product that you are promoting.

Some examples of 100% commissions models, the highest-paying affiliate programs, are: Empower Network, WP Lapdance, Infinity Downline, and many of the individual WSO (Warrior Forum Special Offers). The first two have a network-marketing style compensation plan that also involves some sort of sale pass-up system or matrix. This does not mean that they are not affiliate marketing programs. There are an infinity of commission structure variations out there.

There are more Affiliate Programs in existence than what can be listed here, and in all different categories, from Books & Media, to Clothing & Apparel, To Entertainment, Video Games, Home & Garden and Internet Marketing products.

One of the easier ways to search for top affiliate programs to promote is by joining or browsing an affiliate network. These networks cluster together many of the best affiliate programs and provide an easy to search resources for affiliates to scan through and see the different products and related details such as conversion rates, return rates, commission percentages and so forth.

Many of these networks will also email you each time a new program or new product is added to keep you up to speed.

One of the largest affiliate programs directories is Here you can easily find and compare many different affiliate programs that are suited to your needs. Also includes affiliate software, webmaster forums, plus more.

They provide a very concise explanation of affiliate programs:

What are affiliate programs and how you can make money using them:

Affiliate programs, also known as associate programs or publisher programs, are actually quite simple. You get paid for selling someone else's product or service. It is like being a salesman. All you have to do is sign up with the affiliate program of some company, such as Best Buy or Circuit City. You will then be given an account and a link, banner, or other advertisement. You place that advertisement on your web sites and when someone clicks on that link, their visit is tracked. If they decide to make a purchase, you will earn a percentage of the amount that the web site selling the product earns on that sale. For example some companies will pay 10% commission so if a visitor to your web site clicks on your affiliate link and makes a purchase of $100, you will get $10 (these type of programs that pay you per sale are normally called pay per sale affiliate programs).

There are many different types of affiliate programs so not all of them will pay you per sale or a percentage of a sale. Some of these different types of affiliate programs include pay per lead, residual income (also known as recurring commission, recurring income, lifetime commission and lifetime income), affiliate networks, cpa networks, two tier programs, popups, popunders, ad networks, and contextual ads. No matter what type of commission these affiliate programs pay, you still will earn from them. The amount you earn depends on how much effort you put into working with them.

Most major companies and retailers, such as Yahoo!, Amazon, eBay, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Sears, Macy's, GameStop, Circuit City, and thousand of others have affiliate programs that pay at varying rates so you should do your research before placing an affiliate link on your web site.

To be successful with affiliate advertisements, you must select a company that offers a product that your customers will be interested in. For example, if you run a video game site, don't place associate links for 1 800 Flowers or Home Depot on your web site, they will seem out of place and do very poorly. You have a much better chance of making money by placing affiliate links to Game Stop, EBGames, GameFly, or other video game companies that have affiliate programs.

Also, make sure that you do not have too many affiliate advertisements on your web site because it will draw visitors away and you will not make any money and lose traffic.

One great way to make a lot of money using affiliate or publisher programs is to create a product review web site. You can review any product you like from cell phones to MP3 Players to furniture and everything in between. Place an affiliate link to a web site where the product being reviewed can be purchased. This is especially useful if you gave a certain product a very good review and tempted readers to purchase that specific item.

Something that those who are new to affiliate programs do not know how to do efficiently is find high paying affiliate programs that well best complement their web site. There are a number of ways to go about this. First of all, you can go to the web site of every company that sells products related to the topic of your web site and check if they have an affiliate program and see how they pay. However, a much better and quicker method to finding quality affiliate programs is to visit affiliate program directories such as this web site. We have links to hundreds of the highest rated affiliate programs in dozens of different categories. We cannot make any guarantees, but chances are, you will find the best affiliate programs in your category, no matter how specific it is, here in our affiliate program directory.

Affiliate programs are a great way to monetize your web site and you should definitely take the time to look into them."

And in this time of joblessness people are motivate to try new things. A recent article about Christine, by Allan Gardyne illustrates the point:

"Jewelry maker and mother of two Christine Gierer sees herself as a "very lazy marketer" who finds most promotional activities tedious and says she is "pretty bad" at creating revenue.

However, by turning her jewelry making hobby into an online business, she now earns more than twice what she used to earn at her full-time job.

Other big advantages are that she works from home, works fewer hours, and has more time and energy for her children and husband.

Not bad for someone who happily describes herself as a "genuine flake."

One thing Christine IS good at doing is getting traffic to her website. After a fairly slow start, her How To Make Jewelry website now averages more than 7,000 unique visitors and 30,000 page views a DAY.

"As an artist, I did shows and wholesaled, and worked the buyer end of the corporate world too. Then I got bored with it and went back to school ... and became a mental health counsellor."

A few years later, now with two young children and wanting to avoid putting them into daycare, she decided she need to start building a business she could do part-time from home.

In 2006 she dabbled with posting a few of her jewelry pieces for sale on Etsy and experimented with blogging.

"I realized that I wasn't getting any traffic, so that's when (in 2007) I started trying to educate myself and came across SBI. My SBI site - How to Make Jewelry - is where the business actually started working."

As a busy mother of two young children, she didn't have much time for creating a website.

"I worked on my SBI site in between making snacks, hosting play dates, taking my kids to play centres, doing duty days at my daughter's three morning a week nursery school, and wiping baby bums and runny noses. I don't imagine I was spending more than an hour or two a day on the computer."

She says she got only five visitors the first month and 19 page views. The next month she got 264 visitors.

But look at her results now...

affiliate programs

Christine's website gets more than 7,000 unique visitors and 30,000 page views a day.

The site publishes jewelry making tutorials, videos, resources, tips and articles. It invites visitors to share photos of their handmade jewelry and also invites them to ask and answer questions…" ().

Residual Income Affiliate Programs

Now, most affiliate marketing involves the affiliate selling a product, just one transaction, and then getting paid their affiliate commission. And some of these products are recurring payment products. Some things such as software that requires updates, or any sort of monthly services or membership sites which have affiliate programs will charge their customer each month for their membership access. Many affiliate marketers would consider this these to be the best affiliate programs because they can do the work once and continue to get paid a monthly affiliate commission for as long as that customer continues their membership.

The next step up from that would probably be 100% recurring commission affiliate programs. Now those are a bit harder to come by. In fact, the only ones that I know of are network-marketing style programs, which also have a sort of pass-up system within their compensation plan. Infinity Downline was the first of these that I had seen. Since then others have popped up.

Probably the most notable affiliate program of this type is Empower Network.

Empower Network provides digital products such as web hosting, web sites/blogs, as well as marketing systems and digital information products in the form of audio and video education for business owners. The Empower Network products, of which there are currently four, consist of both one-time sales and recurring sales of $25 per month and $100 per month. As Empower Network provides a 100% commission model, this means that the affiliate who lands the sale will continue to receive their $25 or $100 monthly commission each month for the duration of the customer's active membership.

This type of affiliate model has caught a lot of attention. There have been several attempts to copy this model just in the last six months or so. Such is the American way… see something good and copy it.

The Empower Network affiliate program {appears|seems} to have successfully merged affiliate marketing with a more traditional network marketing type model and has attracted both types of aspiring business owners.
